Tongues and Trees
Toward a
Pentecostal Ecological Theology
This book develops a Pentecostal
ecological theology (an ecotheology) with key pneumatological themes
that emerge from the Pentecostal tradition. It examines the salient
Pentecostal and Chrismatic voices that have stimulated ecotheology in
the Pentecostal tradition and situates them within the broader context
of Christian ecumenical ecotheologies (Roman Catholic, Orthodox,
Protestant, and Ecofeminist). Swoboda advances a novel approach to
Pentecostal ecotheology through a pneumatology of the Spirit-baptized
creation, the charismatic creational community, the holistic ecological
Spirit, and the eschatological Spirit of ecological mission.
The first substantive contribution to
a Pentecostal pneumatological theology of creation with a particular
focus on the Pentecostal community and its significance for the broader
ecumenical community.
"A thoughtful articulation of how
the pentecostal charismatic recommendation of the gospel involves an
ecological and environmental sensitivity with implications for an ethic
of creation-care. ... Tongues and Trees represents a major contribution
to this important theological task... I highly recommend it and its
author for your thoughtful consideration." - Amos Yong (from the
Foreword)
