who died suddenly in 2004, was Professor Emeritus of New Testament
Language, Literature and Theology, New College, University of Edinburgh.
He is the author of The Bible’s Authority: A Portrait Gallery of
Thinkers from Lessing to Bultmann and Who Did Jesus Think He
Was? The Point of It All was his last book. Born in Australia, he
taught history at the University of Melbourne and Ormond College
Theological Hall before turning to New Testament. His wife, Judith, was
a well-known author of novels for children.
